Abstract

The Bolivian population living in São Paulo already represents the largest non-national group living legally in the city. Despite occupying the same territory as the people of São Paulo, this community is still the target of simplifications and stereotypes that emphasize its differentiation from the local community. In light of this phenomenon, this research aims to understand how the dynamics of welcoming this group into the city in question develop, adopting as a perspective of analysis hospitality, understood here as a political institution that manages the latent difference in the newcomer, assuming the function of demarcating the group’s limits while enabling the transposition into the host group.
