“Production of Nature” and Heterotopias in the Touristification of the Impenetrable Chaco (Argentina)

Abstract

The article analyzes discourses that articulate, sustain and legitimize the conservation of a “new nature” in the Impenetrable region (Chaco Province, Argentina). It addresses the role of one of the central actors of the Impenetrable’s touristification process, the Rewilding Argentina Foundation, exploring the ways in which it visually and textually constructs the concept of “Production of Nature”: which communicational tools are articulated, which imaginaries are updated, which actors and issues are relegated and why to think of them as a heterotopic place.
